Gunpla Expo 2014 Singapore - Info

It's the time of the year again and Gunpla Expo is coming to town! As opposed to the previous two years when it was held at Serangoon's NEX, the host for this year is Bugis+, supposedly a location of higher human traffic and better accessibility for us all!

Disappointingly though, the exclusive kits highlighted in the promotional poster are quite unexciting. However, based on previous experiences, we can all be hopeful that there may be better offerings at the event itself.

The Expo runs from 10 September 2014 to 21 September 2014 - so be sure to mark you calendars and pop by to pay this annual event (and Mr Kawaguchi!) a visit!

Gundam Duel Company - For iOS, Android and PC

A few days ago, I came across a blog posting regarding this game which is available in English on iOS, Android and PC - how often do you see an official Gundam based game available in English on different platforms?! Filled with intrigued, and with it being an official Gundam based game, it was impossible for me to pass.

Though it was not mandatory to make any purchases to play GDC, in-game free cards (Yes, it is a turn-based card game) are limited and either have to be "rented" (with a time limit I have yet to experience) or won through battle campaigns.

You know how in-app purchases usually limit your possession of any particular items or power-ups to the confines of the games themselves? Well, Gundam Duel Company gives me the opportunity of physically owning something reminiscent of our childhood - trading cards (S$12.50 each for the SEED and 0079 starter packs and S$4.80 for a pack of 3 from where I had bought) depicting Mobile Suits and Pilots hailing from different series in the Gundam metaverse; and hey, some of them glitter in a pixelated manner. It is kind of cool to enter their codes in-game and then virtually owning something to battle with, not to mention the adrenaline rush from opening the concealed packs.

Take a look at the official website and explore around to learn more about GDC to see if it interests you! The full collection of cards from the current first version (the second version is coming in October!) can be viewed here.

Bandai Product Recall Info: HGUC 1/144 MSZ-006A1 Zeta Plus (Unicorn Ver.)

It seems like even Bandai has quality issues with its design and production. The July release of the HGUC Zeta Plus from the UC Gundam OVA is facing a recall for 2 of its particular parts, namely pieces from the B Runner that forms its face-plate (B-4) and crotch (B-31).

Interestingly, aside from the physical identification of the faulty parts, owners are able to verify if they are the unlucky recipients of these hiccups from the box art which reflects artwork drawn with the faulty crotch.

At this point, the advisory and rectification steps for the recall process seems to be directed to owners living in Japan. If you are one of the unlucky owners residing out of Japan, you may wish to contact your local distributor for further details. Personally, I would not heed the recall and will instead, keep it as a memorabilia of some sort.

MS Gundam 35th - The Art of Gundam

The metaverse of Gundam is grown from the the collective imaginations and artistic talents of multiple individuals, sprouted and developed from the original concept of  Gundam in the first series - Mobile Suit Gundam 0079. In celebration of its 35th anniversary since it was first introduced, Osaka, until the end of August, is playing host to The Art of Gundam, a spectacular exhibition that showcases the props and items used in the production of the Gundam metaverse animations.

What is a Gundam expo or exhibition without its array of exclusive and limited edition plastic goodies? Among other lifestyle goods and a couple of Gashapons (which are pretty desirable, too), the exhibition will give fans an opportunity to claim ownership to the following that leaves the likes of us overseas fans either salivating or proverbially burning a hole somewhere - from top to bottom in the images:

  • HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam (The Art of Gundam Osaka Metallic Edition)
  • HGUC 1/144 MS-06 / MS-06S Zaku II and Char's Zaku II (The Art of Gundam Osaka Metallic Edition)
  • MG 1/100 RX-78-2 Ver 3.0 Gundam (Mechanical Clear Ver.)
  • MG 1/100 MS-06S 2.0 Char's Zaku II (Mechanical Clear Ver.)
  • MSM 1/148 RX-78-2 Gundam (Clear Colour Ver.)

Bandai's Plamo And Gunpla Release Schedules - August 2014

August 2014 proves to be a plastic dry spell for Gunpla collectors... because only 3 new kits will be released for the entirety of this month. Bandai is Exia frenzy these 2 months, evident through the releases and pre-orders for multiple iterations of Exia and Exia related Gunpla kits, with the Amazing Exia taking its position in the production line this time round.

With its right claw missing now, the repaired version of the Rozen Zulu also makes it appearance in the HGUC line, appropriately tagged as the Episode 7 Version.

Finally, the spotlight falls on the latest candidate to receive the MG Katoki makeover - the Hi-v Gundam, be sure to get it if you intend to acquire the P-Bandai exclusive FA-93-v2 HWS set!
